Some Sweet Thoughts on a Summer Evening...
If you had told me years ago that I’d one day own a chocolate company, I probably would’ve laughed, midway through decorating a three-tier fondant cake, of course.
My journey from medicine to chocolate might seem like a twist, but for me, it’s the most natural blend of two passions: caring for people and creating joy. Growing up, I was the guy who loved baking from scratch. My kitchen was (and still is) a hub for sugar, flour, and late-night experiments with ganache and buttercream. I’ve made more birthday cakes than I can count. Each one handcrafted, layered, and lovingly covered in fondant; for my nieces, nephews, and anyone else lucky enough to be in the family birthday queue.
Owning Gorant Chocolates gives me the chance to share that joy beyond my kitchen. There’s something deeply personal about chocolate whether you love a French Mint Meltaway or a small piece of our dark chocolate breakup. Chocolate can mark celebrations, mend heartbreaks, and bring people together. Overall, it just makes things better, much like modern medicine.
And yes, I’m still a doctor. I believe in taking care of our bodies, but I also believe that a life well-lived includes the occasional indulgence, but within reason. It’s not about saying no to sweets; it’s about knowing when to say yes. In my medical practice, I’ve always told patients: everything in moderation. That applies to dessert and nice glass of wine just as much as anything else. A beautifully crafted piece of chocolate, savored and appreciated, can be as nourishing to the soul as a healthy meal is to the body.
For me, chocolate isn’t just a business, it’s a way to share love, celebrate moments, and stay connected to the creative, joyful part of life. And when I get to put on my apron, dust off the flour, and make something delicious from scratch, I’m reminded exactly why I’m doing this.
And yes, I made a Taylor Swift themed cake with custom printed fondant a few months ago.
